After the collapse of the Soviet Union many people fled the country - whether it was for tourism or business, many came to Japan. This village was created specifically for people from the former Soviet States. Many businessmen who were looking to make a large profit from selling old Japanese cars in former Soviet countries stayed here. However the fate of this village was undone shortly after its opening.

This airplane and helicopter graveyard was once the central airport of Moscow. This airport has a lot of history – on May 9, 1945 an airplane landed here with documents stating the surrender of Nazi Germany.

During the 1950's United States conducted many nuclear tests over the "Pacific Proving Grounds". This was one of them. In 1958 operation "Cactus" was completed - an 18 kT (kiloton) nuclear bomb was dropped and this 350ft crater was created.

The Rubjerg Knude lighthouse was first lit on December 27, 1900. Today it rests abandoned on top of the 200 foot (60 m) cliff on the coast of the North Sea, in northern Denmark. Each year the coast erodes approximately 4.9 feet (1.5 m).

In 1943 Volcán de Parícutin began erupting without warning, it buried two entire villages in the process. The village of San Juan Parangaricutiro was one of them and the only thing left to remind us of the village that was once here is an ancient church. It is buried under more than 20 feet of lava rock.

This half-sunken sea-liner is named the World Discoverer. It met its fate on April 30th, 2000, when it hit an uncharted reef in the Solomon Islands. Now it has become a popular tourist attraction and is visible from space on Google Maps.

It has been 25 years since the Chernobyl nuclear power plant had its melt down. This was the biggest nuclear meltdown in history of our planet. The town on the outskirts of the power plant, Pripyat has a very eerie feel to it and remains abandoned.
