The concept of magnetically controlled robots isn't a new one, but controlling more than one has proved difficult in the past, due to magnetic fields. SRI International has developed robots that are extremely fast and can work in large groups (which was solved by placing circuit boards under the robots).

This video shows two quadrocopters balancing as well as launching and catching an inverted pendulum. Pretty incredible stuff, considering that we didn't even know how to fly 100 years ago!
